save IT – backup all your data

What is backup, file syncing & storage providers

Backup: Files are saved automatically. If you change files on your computers, their backed up files in the cloud change as well. It is important to have multiple versions of files so if you accidentally change or delete a file, we can easily restore an earlier version.

File Syncing: Is to ensure that two or more devices contain access to the same up-to-date files. Remember — lose it, and it is gone forever. If you add, change, or delete your file then all of the files synced in other locations will instantly change.

Storage Providers: Merely offer space for users to manually select files they want to take off their hard drives and save in a duplicate space.

While all of these services involve saving data to the cloud, each has a different purpose. These differences are important to understand, if disaster recovery is a primary goal — as it should be for every personal and business user — it is important to ensure that OnlineBackup is a priority and then add the other services as needed.

With online backup:

Files are saved automatically, meaning an encrypted carbon copy of your files are sent to the cloud whenever they are connected to the Internet. Done correctly, OLB is a “live” service, so if you change files on your computers, their backup files in the cloud change as well. We feel it is important to have multiple versions of files to maintain data integrity, so if you accidentally change or delete a file, we can easily restore an earlier version. Some of the other important elements of OLB include a simple data restoration process, topflight security, and easy access to your files from any Internet - connected device.

With File Syncing:

The goal is to ensure that two or more devices contain access to the same up-to-date files, such as work and home PCs. With file syncing, you can also share files with other people, which is handy if you want to have several people edit one document. However, it is important to remember that with syncing, there is only one copy of each file up in the cloud — lose it, and it is gone forever. If you add, change, or delete your file then all of the files synced in other locations will instantly change as well.

With File Storage:

Providers merely offer space for users to manually select files they want to take off their hard drives and save in a duplicate space. Storage providers generally lack automatic service, they will not perform integrity checks on stored files and it’s cumbersome to choose and store each and every file.

Bottom Line:
It’s a common misconception that syncing and storage provide backup — but they don’t. Essentially, you run the same risks with these services as with antiquated systems like CDs and external hard drives: they require too much manual input and that increases the likelihood of human error.
